Why This Recipe Works

For a fun variation on the classic vodka soda, we stirred in sweet, slightly sour Peach Shrub Syrup for some fruitiness. Muddling some basil added a little sweet-savory pepperiness, creating just the right summer refresher.

Instructions

  1.  Add basil leaves and shrub syrup to base of cocktail shaker and muddle until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Add vodka, then fill shaker with ice. Shake mixture until just combined and chilled, about 5 seconds.
  2.  Strain cocktail into chilled collins glass half-filled with ice. Add seltzer and, using barspoon, gently lift vodka mixture from bottom of glass to top to combine. Top with additional ice and garnish with basil sprig. Serve.
