Our favorite 13 by 9-inch glass baking dish is the Pyrex Easy Grab 3-Quart Oblong Baking Dish. It made great cakes and lasagna and its moderate weight and roomy handles made it easy to lift and maneuver.

Three-quart, or 13 by 9-inch, glass baking dishes are the tote bags of kitchenware. They’re inexpensive, functional, and great for transporting goods, and most people have at least one (if not a couple). They’re ideal for bringing lasagnas, casseroles, cobblers, and crumbles straight from the oven to the table. Their glass construction provides excellent insulation, allowing food to cook slowly and gently—and to stay warm for a long time after the dish has left the oven. And because glass baking dishes are transparent, it’s easy to monitor any browning that occurs. Most aren’t broiler-safe—but these inexpensive pans are dishwasher-, microwave-, and freezer-safe.
What to Look For
- Long, Broad, Flat Handles: Dishes with sizeable handles at least an inch wide and seven inches long were easy to grip, even with bulky potholders or oven mitts. Handles that were smaller made it a bit more difficult to grip the baking dish, especially with dish towels or mitts.
- Lighter Weight Dishes: Lighter dishes, weighing close to 4 pounds or less, were easier to transport even when filled with heavy ingredients. Heavier dishes were a little more difficult to handle and transport in and out of the oven.
The Tests
- Measure dimensions and capacity
- Make, cut, and serve yellow cake
- Make, cut, and serve lasagna
- Wash by hand after each cooking test and then wash in dishwasher an additional eight times
