Storing Dumplings for Later

Storing Dumplings for Later

Know how best to store your uncooked dumplings - if you can resist eating them right away.

There are two ways to store dumplings you want to cook later - in the refrigerator or in the freezer. Choosing how to store them is as easy as knowing when you want to eat.

Refrigerator Method

Use this storage method when you plan to eat the dumplings later that day or the next. The filling will soften the wrapper so you don’t want to keep prepared, uncooked dumplings in the refrigerator any longer or the wrapper will become too soft and the risk of tearing increases.

  1. Space prepared dumplings evenly on a parchment-lined plate or baking sheet, being sure to keep them from touching one another.

  2. Wrap the dumplings lightly with plastic wrap, allowing some air to get in to prevent excess moisture. Store in the refrigerator.

  3. When ready to eat, gently transfer the dumplings directly from the refrigerator into your cooking vessel of choice.

Freezer Method

This is the best way to store dumplings to ensure the wrappers do not get too soggy while waiting to be cooked. You can refrigerate uncooked dumplings for up to two days, but any longer than that, the freezer is your best bet.

  1. Lay prepared, uncooked dumplings on plates or baking sheets spaced so they don’t touch one another and freeze until solid.

  2. Transfer fully-frozen dumplings to a zipper-lock bag and freeze for up to 1 month.

  3. When ready to eat, transfer dumplings directly from the freezer to your cooking vessel of choice, increasing cooking time as needed until the dough is fully tender and filling is cooked through.
