Boozy Ultimate Chocolate Milkshakes

Ingredients

2½ cups vanilla ice cream 1½ cups chocolate sorbet 4-6 tablespoons amaretto liqueur 2 tablespoons hot fudge sauce, room temperaturePinch table salt

Before You Begin

Tasters’ preferences varied as to the amount of liqueur they preferred; start with the lesser amount and add more to your liking. For a nonalcoholic version of this recipe, substitute ½ cup whole milk for the amaretto liqueur. This recipe can be easily doubled; simply process the milkshakes in two batches. Garnish with whipped cream, crumbled brownies, and extra fudge sauce, if desired.

Instructions

  1. Place two pint glasses in freezer and chill until ready to serve. Let ice cream and sorbet sit at room temperature to soften slightly, about 15 minutes. Process ice cream, sorbet, amaretto liqueur, fudge sauce, and salt in food processor until smooth, about 1 minute, scraping down sides of bowl as needed. Pour milkshakes into chilled glasses and serve.

Why This Recipe Works

Our tasters were surprised to find that shakes made with just chocolate ice cream had a sour taste. Instead, we settled on a combination of vanilla ice cream and chocolate sorbet, which gave us the chocolate flavor we were after without the sour taste. For an extra burst of deep, rich, chocolate, a little bit of hot fudge sauce went a long way. This twist on the classic chocolate shake is certainly decadent, but for a truly over-the-top drink we turned to amaretto liqueur—the sweet, nutty flavor lent a brownie-like taste that was unbeatably delicious.
