Brandied Caramel Apple Milkshakes

Ingredients

4 cups vanilla ice cream ½ cup apple butter 3 ounces brandy 2 tablespoons caramel sauce

Before You Begin

This recipe can be easily doubled; simply process the milkshakes in two batches. To take this milkshake over the top and really put it into the dessert realm, garnish with whipped cream, a drizzle of caramel sauce, graham cracker crumbs, and apple slices, if you like. Create a nonalcoholic version of these milkshakes by substituting ½ cup whole milk for brandy.

Instructions

  1. Let ice cream sit at room temperature to soften slightly, about 15 minutes. Process all ingredients in blender until smooth, about 1 minute, scraping down sides of blender jar as needed. Pour into chilled pint glasses and serve.

Why This Recipe Works

We knew that the subtle flavor of apple could be easily overpowered by the intense caramel, so we used a generous amount of apple butter, which we discovered provided more intense flavor than fresh apples, apple cider, or dried apples. To add the adult kick to this deluxe milkshake, we opted for brandy, which emphasized the sweet, caramelized fruit flavors. A quick whirl in the blender gave this frosty fall-inspired shake an amazingly creamy but sippable texture.
