Before You Begin
We developed this recipe with Tempus Fugit Crème de Banane banana liqueur. You can substitute 1 tablespoon of brandy or bourbon for the liqueur, if desired. We like to serve this sauce with our Quick Yeasted Waffles, but it is also excellent served over vanilla ice cream.
Instructions
- Combine sugar; cream; 4 tablespoons butter; banana liqueur, if using; and salt in medium saucepan. Cook over medium-high heat, stirring often with rubber spatula, until mixture is thickened and large bubbles appear on surface of sauce, about 4 minutes.
- Off heat, stir in vanilla and remaining 4 tablespoons butter until butter is melted and mixture is smooth, about 1 minute. Gently stir in bananas and walnuts. Serve.

Why This Recipe Works
This Banana-Nut Butterscotch Sauce is the perfect decadent topping for our Quick Yeasted Waffles (or for that ice cream snack you want to take to the next level). Making it was easy. We made a quick, irresistible banana butterscotch sauce by cooking down butter, brown sugar, and heavy cream with a heady dose of banana liqueur, adding the complex, aromatic essence of ripe bananas. Then, once the mixture was thickened, we stirred in loads of sliced fresh bananas and toasted, chopped walnuts, immediately cooling the sauce down and readying it for serving.
