Why This Recipe Works

Wanting to exhibit a variety of oranges and yellows through our juicer, we compiled a list of golden ingredients (in quality and color) that would combine to form something greater than the sum of its parts. Golden beets are less sweet and less earthy than their red counterparts, so they ticked our color box while still providing potassium and deep flavor. Carrots were a complementary ingredient to the golden beets because they reinforce each other's pleasant earthy sweetness. We gave the most weight in our drink to tropical pineapple because it carried the theme of our drink while delivering luscious sweetness and a desirable, thickened texture. These three ingredients melded together to form a multifaceted sweet drink that could only be enhanced by our final gold standard ingredient: turmeric. Turmeric delivered a warm, bitter taste that delightfully took the edge off our sweet juice and deepened its background vegetal flavors from the beets and carrots.
