Be sure that all the ingredients are fresh and of good quality. For ideal flavor, enjoy this infused water on the same day of its preparation. Any kind of cucumber will work in this recipe.
Instructions
- Combine 1 cup water and three-quarters of the cucumber in 8-cup liquid measuring cup or large bowl. With potato masher or muddler, muddle cucumber until broken down and all juice is expressed, about 30 seconds. Stir in 3 cups water. Cover and refrigerate until flavors meld and mixture is chilled, 30 minutes to 1 hour.
- Strain infused water into pitcher, pressing on solids to extract as much juice as possible. Discard solids. Stir in remaining 4 cups water and garnish with extra cucumber. (Water can be stored in refrigerator for up to 1 day; garnish with cucumber just before serving.) Serve in ice-filled glasses.

Why This Recipe Works
During testing, we discovered that the secret to waters with intense flavor and beautiful presentation was dividing the ingredients into muddling items and garnishing items. This allowed us to mash together and extract all the essential flavors during infusing, while leaving extra to float prettily in the glass for our final product. As a result, this water is refreshingly vegetal and clean-tasting. When you want something a little more exciting, our variations offer zippy citrus and an additional flavor component for an easy upgrade.
