What Kids Are Saying
“The best yogurt ever. Fun to prepare.” —Jad, recipe tester, age 9
Ingredients
Before You Begin
You can use regular yogurt in this recipe, but since it is thinner than Greek yogurt, the layers may not stay as well defined. We like the color contrast between plain (unflavored) yogurt and the fruit, but if you use sweetened or flavored yogurt, skip the honey. Kids can get creative and swap in their favorite fruits for the berries, and breakfast cereal can stand in for the granola, if desired.
Instructions
- In small bowl, whisk yogurt and honey until smooth. Spoon one-quarter of the yogurt-honey mixture into each 8-ounce glass tumbler. Top with ¼ cup berries, followed by 2 tablespoons granola (see photo, “Step-by-Step: The Layered Look”).
- Repeat layering process with remaining yogurt, berries, and granola. When you’re done, you should have 2 layers of yogurt, berries, and granola. Serve within 15 minutes or granola will start to become soggy.

Why This Recipe Works
Kids can make their own breakfast (or snack) using this supersimple recipe: Mix plain Greek yogurt with a touch of honey, then layer it with fresh berries and their favorite granola. As they eat their parfaits, ask kids if they know what makes Greek yogurt different from regular yogurt. Making Greek yogurt follows the exact same process as making regular yogurt, just with an extra step at the end: The yogurt is strained for several hours. As it sits in the strainer, a clear liquid called whey drains out, leaving behind a thicker, creamier yogurt—Greek yogurt! If you have any plain yogurt in your refrigerator, have kids compare it to the Greek yogurt in their parfaits. Which one is thicker?
