Everything Bagel Salmon

Everything Bagel Salmon

Ingredients

1 tablespoon sesame seeds 1 tablespoon dried onion flakes and/or minced garlic1½ teaspoons poppy seeds ¼ teaspoon kosher salt 2 (6-ounce) skin-on salmon fillets, 1 inch thick

Before You Begin

You can substitute ⅓ cup of your favorite store-bought Everything Bagel Seasoning, if you like. If using wild salmon, cook it until it registers 120 degrees. This recipe can be easily doubled. You can refrigerate the cooked salmon in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

Instructions

  1. Combine 1 tablespoon sesame seeds, 1 tablespoon onion flakes, 1½ teaspoons poppy seeds, and ¼ teaspoon kosher salt in bowl, then spread onto large plate. Press flesh side of 2 salmon fillets into seasoning.
  2. To Cook Salmon in Oven: Adjust oven rack to middle position and heat oven to 400 degrees. Set wire rack in aluminum foil–lined rimmed baking sheet. Place fillets skin side down on prepared rack and bake until salmon registers 125 degrees (for medium-rare), 13 to 18 minutes. Slide fish spatula along underside of fillets and transfer to plate, leaving skin behind. Serve.To Cook Salmon in Air Fryer: Line air fryer basket with aluminum foil. Place fillets skin side down in prepared basket, spaced evenly apart. Place basket in air fryer, set temperature to 400 degrees, and bake until salmon registers 125 degrees (for medium-rare), 10 to 15 minutes. Slide fish spatula along underside of fillets and transfer to plate, leaving skin behind. Serve.

Why This Recipe Works

The combination of smoked salmon on an everything bagel inspired the quick seasoning crust on these salmon fillets. Premade bagel seasoning tends to contain a lot of salt, so we make our own by simply mixing sesame seeds, onion flakes (and/or minced garlic), poppy seeds, and a bit of salt.
