Sugar Syrup

15 minutes, plus 20 minutes cooling

1 1/2 cups

Sugar Syrup

Ingredients

Plain Sugar Syrup

1 cup water 1 cup granulated sugar

Additional Flavorings

½ vanilla bean, with scraped seeds3 ounces fresh blueberries, raspberries, or blackberries2 inch piece ginger, cut into 4 coins2 teaspoons grated lemon zest, lime, or orange

Before You Begin

Store in the refrigerator.

Instructions

  1. Combine sugar and water in a small saucepan. Set the pan over medium heat and whisk frequently until the sugar dissolves completely. Bring to a simmer.
  2. For flavored syrup, add flavorings of your choice. Simmer for 4 minutes, remove from the heat, and cool. Strain the flavorings out of the syrup once it cools.
