Yield

Serves 8 (Makes 2 cups)

Peanut Butter Sauce

Ingredients

1 cup (7 ounces/198 grams) sugar ¾ cup evaporated milk 8 tablespoons unsalted butter (1 stick)½ cup creamy peanut butter 1 teaspoon vanilla extract ⅛ teaspoon table salt

Before You Begin

Make sure to cook the sauce over low heat; with too much heat, the peanut butter will cause the sauce to break. For a special treat, pour over ice cream along with the chocolate sauce.

Instructions

  1. Bring sugar, milk, butter, peanut butter, vanilla, and salt to simmer in medium saucepan over medium heat. Reduce heat to low and cook, stirring often, until sauce is smooth and thick, about 3 minutes. Serve warm.

Why This Recipe Works

Supermarkets are chockablock with prepared sauces, but our homemade sauce takes just minutes to make and tastes a lot better than store-bought versions. For our Peanut Butter Sauce, we combined creamy peanut butter with evaporated milk, sugar, butter, and vanilla extract for a rich, peanuty flavor.

Make sure to cook the sauce over low heat; with too much heat, the peanut butter will cause the sauce to break. For a special treat, pour over ice cream along with the chocolate sauce.
