Hoisin-Sesame Sauce

Ingredients
2 tablespoons sesame oil ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes 1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger 1 medium clove garlic, minced¼ cup hoisin sauce 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar 2 tablespoons soy sauce 2 tablespoons orange juice, fresh1 teaspoon ground coriander ½ teaspoon five-spice powder
Before You Begin
This thick sauce is best with grilled or broiled shrimp or scallops; it's also great with salmon. Just before serving, you can sprinkle thinly sliced scallions and toasted sesame seeds over the sauce.
Instructions
- Heat oil with pepper flakes in small skillet. Add ginger and garlic; saute until softened, 1 to 2 minutes. Pour this flavored oil into small bowl; stir in remaining ingredients. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Why This Recipe Works
We wanted a thick, flavorful sauce to serve with grilled or broiled shrimp or scallops. Hoisin sauce mixed with sesame oil, soy sauce, and orange juice turned out to be just the right combination.
