Sauces not only can make your food taste better, but they can make it look better too. A plate that looks beautiful will ultimately be more appealing to guests and will make any dish feel more special. Showcase your sauce-making skills with these simple but impressive techniques, and let the compliments roll in.

1

Spoon It

Place a spoonful of thick, smooth sauce on a plate, and use the back of a spoon to drag into a comma shape.

Place the food next to or slightly on top of the sauce.

2

Pour It

Pour a sauce that is meant to be served in large quantities into a deep plate or shallow bowl so that it pools in the center.

Place the food on top of the sauce.

3

Squeeze It

Put a thick, smooth sauce in a plastic squeeze bottle. Carefully drizzle the sauce over the plate to create attractive designs, such as spirals, dots, zigzags, or waves.

Place the food on top of the sauce. (With this method, you can also place the food on the plate first and drizzle the sauce on top.)

4

Brush It

Using a pastry brush, brush a thin, spreadable sauce across the middle or the side of the plate.

Place the food next to or across the sauce.
