Ingredients
Before You Begin
Add some toppings to make your pizza just the way you want it! Before baking, try adding a cooked protein (such as pepperoni slices, bacon, or chicken), chopped or sliced vegetables (such as cherry tomatoes, bell peppers, or mushrooms), or extra cheese (such as crumbled feta or goat cheese). After baking, you can sprinkle your pizza with torn fresh basil, a handful of baby spinach, or extra grated Parmesan cheese. We prefer dark-colored cake pans in this recipe. You can use light-colored cake spans, but the crust will be a little softer and less crisp.
Instructions
- Adjust oven rack to middle position and heat oven to 450 degrees. Divide oil evenly between two 9-inch round cake pans. Spread oil evenly inside pans using your fingers.
- Divide dough in half. Pat and flatten each piece of dough into circle. Place 1 dough circle in each cake pan and turn to coat with oil.
- Cover cake pans loosely with plastic wrap. Let dough rise on counter until slightly puffy, about 30 minutes.
- When dough is ready, gently push and stretch dough to cover bottoms of pans (all the way to edges).
- Spoon pizza sauce evenly over both dough circles and spread into even layer, leaving ½-inch border. Sprinkle each pizza evenly with mozzarella and Parmesan.
- Place cake pans in oven and bake until cheese is beginning to brown, 10 to 15 minutes. Use oven mitts to remove cake pans from oven and place on cooling rack (ask an adult for help). Let pizzas cool in pans for 5 minutes.
- Use spatula to transfer pizzas to cutting board. Cut into wedges. Serve.

Why This Recipe Works
Want a pizza recipe that’s simple enough for even the youngest chefs to make, but still gives you a crisp crust and cheesy toppings? Use your cake pans! Kids can push and stretch the dough to the edges of the pan, no ruler or messy countertop required. You can leave your pizzas plain, or use let kids choose their favorite toppings. While the pizzas bake, challenge kids to give their pizzas a special name, bonus points if they can think of an alliterative one (a name with multiple words that all begin with the same letter or sound).
