Why This Recipe Works
Our cocktail is a play on the modern classic, the Little Italy, mixed by Audrey Saunders at the Pegu Club in the mid-2000s. She split the vermouth in a Manhattan with Cynar to add some bittering complexity. This led to a whole host of Manhattan variations named for New York locations. Here we pair the spiciness of rye with floral Amaro Montenegro and round Cocchi Americano for an approachable aperitif.
