Brown Sugar-Banana Topping

Ingredients

2 tablespoons unsalted butter ¼ cup packed (1 ¾ ounce) brown sugar 2 tablespoons water 1 teaspoon lemon juice ¼ teaspoon ground cardamom ⅛ teaspoon salt 3 ripe bananas, peeled and sliced on bias ½ inch thick

Before You Begin

Look for yellow bananas with very few spots; overly ripe bananas will fall apart during cooking.

Instructions

  1. Melt butter in 12-inch skillet over medium heat. Add sugar, water, lemon juice, cardamom, and salt and whisk until sugar dissolves. Add bananas and cook, stirring frequently, until bananas have softened at edges, 2 to 3 minutes. Transfer to bowl and serve.
