You don’t need to add water to a specific line in the bowl as with other machines. Instead, you fill a water reservoir ahead of time, and the machine dispenses the correct volume for the amount and type of rice you’re cooking.

This compact, sleek oven was easy to use and made wonderful pizzas in just a few minutes. It surpassed its maximum temperature setting of 850 degrees, producing attractive Neapolitan-style pizzas with beautifully blistered crusts. We also made great thin-crust pizzas using a slightly lower temperature setting. Plus, you can use it as a traditional oven when you select a “bake” setting that gets as low as 350 degrees.

If you like French press but not the grit, take advantage of the sale on this highly rated model. Thanks to its dual basket-style nylon micro-mesh filters, a silicone gasket, and silicone filter lid, this press kept sediment at the bottom of the pot and produced silky, clean-tasting coffee. We found this steel pot surprisingly easy to press after steeping and stirring, considering that it has more material to plunge.

Our winning pepper mill is easy to load, and thanks to its clearly marked grind settings, “you know exactly what you’re getting,” said one tester. The easy-to-read settings allow you to quickly and seamlessly change grind sizes, and the pepper output is great too: We saw clear differences between the pepper ground using the fine, medium, and coarse settings. The mill is easy to operate, and the clear body is a nice bonus when filling because it helps avoid overflow.
T-Fal Ultimate EZ-Clean Fryer

This machine makes perfectly crispy fried food. You can program the temperature of the oil, which takes some of the guesswork out of deep frying. A large basket holds lots of food and makes it easy to lower and lift the food; its high walls and lid contain messes nicely. While we didn’t love cleaning it, a built-in filter and handy oil storage container made the process easier. Like all of the electric deep-fryers we tested, it maxed out around 374 degrees, so it can’t fry quick-cooking, high-heat foods such as tempura as nicely as a Dutch oven on the stovetop can.

Nonstick rimmed baking sheets offer many of the same benefits as their traditional counterparts, but they hold special appeal for people who prefer the ease of cooking with and cleaning nonstick equipment. The textured surface of this PTFE-free nonstick pan impressed us by producing evenly baked cookies. Sticky caramel was no match for the nonstick coating; the caramel-coated popcorn slid off the pan easily. This pan is easy to hand-wash because its coating prevents food from sticking.

Toshiba 6-Cup Rice Cooker with Fuzzy Logic

This rice cooker was a close second in our testing. The only reason it lost was a lack of the stay-cool handles of our winner’s interior pot, a nice handling feature. It makes delicious, evenly cooked rice and the light-colored measurement labels inside the dark-colored cooking bowl are easy to read. We also liked the mop’s relatively long handle and wide, flat head, which was easy to remove and machine washable.
