Why This Recipe Works

We love berries for their inherent sweetness and tartness, but we worked to balance those flavors with the common smoothie additions of banana and yogurt. Both added a creamy element that made the drink smoother tasting and mellowed out any presence of berry seeds. Starting the blender on low speed helped minimize ingredients splashing up the sides of the jar, so after a quick scrape-down, we could use a higher speed to better emulsify the drink. Using water as our blending liquid let our ingredients take center stage while also thinning the smoothie enough for easy drinking. In addition to the master recipe, we offer variations, such as tropical-tasting mango-lime, that unite complementary flavors when you want a more curated combination.
